I Love Clay Blog Hop reveal

Today is the reveal for the I Love Clay Blog Hop hosted by Lisa Lodge of A Grateful Artist blog.  I love to participate in Lisa's blog hops as they are always a challenge to me.  She prepares kits that the participant purchases and includes the best things.  In this blog hop, I received a piece that (Oh fudge, I forgot her name.  I have the name but it is not handy for me to get and insert right now.  I will add her name as soon as I can as I think it is important to recognize their work.) Earthenwood Studio made.  I have never worked with her handmade pieces before and enjoyed using the piece that I received.  Lisa included some additional beads to use.

Here is a picture of the pieces that I received.

The additional beads were nice but if you have ever noticed the pieces that I make, I tend to be matchy-matchy.  I haven't been able to break myself of that habit yet.  So I dug into my beads and came up with some that I used instead of Lisa's.  I will be using Lisa's beads, probably to make some earrings.

I used some bone beads, red rounds, and matte amethyst faceted rounds.  Can you guess what I made?

I love ice cream cones and now I have my very own ice cream cone necklace.

I used the bone beads to make the cones with a bead cap to act as a napkin at the bottom of the cone, then I layered the amethyst beads as ice cream scoops and topped with a cherry.

I did make earrings but soemthing happened with the picture and I will have to add them later.

Autumn 2013 Bead Design Challenge!

I just sent in my entry for Bead Happily Ever After's Autumn 2013 Bead Design Challenge!  The theme this year was “Break Out of Your Color Comfort Zone”!  All you had to do was make something with at least two itmes that you purchased from their etsy store etsy bead shop.

If you have ever read my blog, you will have seen that I tend to make things in my favorite color range which are the autumn/fall colors of orange, brown, yellow with some green and red thrown in.  This time I didn't use any of my favorite colors unless you count the gold chain and gold bead caps.

I used lapis blue spacers as the focal with moonglow blue rounds and moonglow white tubes.  I plan to wear this with either a blue or red shirt and blue jeans.  I just need to get a set of earrings made.

I need to improve my photography skills as it is much prettier in person.  I sent in the middle picture as only one picture was allowed.

Thanks for stopping by.  Comments are always welcome.

Bead Soup beads have arrived!

Goodies have arrived

My Bead Soup partner, Chris White, sent me some challenging beads in my soup.  They arrived neatly packaged in organza drawstring bags.
Pressed glass squares and glass pearls

Purple and white jade

Jade nuggets, Marsha Neal Studio ceramic pendant, ivory cinnabar

Glass squares, jade rectangles and nuggets

Glass pearls

Ivory cinnabar, white jade, silver spacers and beads caps

Silver spacers, bead caps and toggle clasp, Marsha Neal Studio pendant

Jade rounds, rectangles, silver spacers and toggle clasp

What to make is now the question.  Do I go for multiple items or one item?  The only requirement is to use the focal bead and the clasp.  So do I only use those items from the soup? That will be the question.  Please come back for the second reveal date of April 6th for this year's Bead Soup Blog Party.

Thanks for stopping by.  Please come back on Friday, March 1, for the Challenge of Music reveal.

Bead Soup is done!!!

Here are my pieces from my Bead Soup mix that I received from Beti Horvath, the Stringing Fool.

I started with the flourite rounds and added peach-lined crackle beads with black seed beads as spacers.

Here is Beti's handmade clasp.

I added adventurine lentil beads and another shape for the peach-lined crackle beads.

The final design!

I still have another set of beads to be made up so look below.

The Jasper donut decorated with brass bead caps, a pearl, and root beer colored seed beads for the bail. You can see the pearls that I used.  I added dark grey pearls to the blue ones that Beti sent me.

Other side of the above jasper donut.  I used a head pin threaded from the other side and made tight loops on this side so the pearls do not move.  Am thinking of adding short chain lengths to have a different look.

Beti's brass hook 'n eye clasp

The complete set!

The final set of beads - Adventurine chips and flourite rounds

I hope you have enjoyed looking at what I made.  I want to thank Lori Anderson of Pretty Things for hosting this Bead Soup Blog Hop.  I had a great time making everything and am anxiously awaiting the next Bead Soup Blog Party.

Bead soup has arrived!!

My soup has arrived!  My beading partner is Beti Horvath of the Stringing Fool blog.  She sent me some gorgeous beads.  Here is the package as it came out of the envelope.

Beti packaged everything in small plastic bags.

A jasper donut that is bluish green, flourite beads, green aventurine chips, medium blue pearls, some brass bead caps, some brass wire swirls, and two clasps, one that Beti made and a brass hook and eye clasp.

A closer look at the donut and the pearls, I wonder if they will go together?

Or maybe the aventurine chips and the flourite rounds will go with donut?

What do you think?

Thaks, Beti, for the gorgeous beads and the challenge to make something with them.

Thanks for stopping by.  Be sure to come back for the reveal on July 28th.
