Summer Carnival Blog Hop reveal

Today is the reveal of Lisa Lodge's Pine Ridge Treasures Summer Canival Blog hop.

The participants purchased beads kits from Lisa and were to make something that represented a summer carnival to them.

Here are the beads that I received:

Strands of crystal and cultured seglass.

It was difficult to decide what to make but the first item was a blue and white seaglass necklace with gold sparkly seed beads and clear crystals.  To me the necklace just sparkles just like the lights on the midway or the ferris wheel.

Next up is a cultured seaglass rondell necklace that reminds be of the polka-dotted clown outfits.

I dug into the destash that I got from Lisa and found some red and green rondells to use along with the blue and color-blocked the necklace.

The earrings I made to match are a little different style than I usually make, kind of swingy like the buckets on the ferris wheel.

Please be sure to stop by and visit the other participants.

Michael's Beading Challenge Blog Hop reveal

Heather Powers of Humbleads and Lorelei Eurto of Lorelei's Blog are co-hosting a blog hop using Michael's Bead Gallery beads.  Heather saw that the beads were on sale for 40% off and picked out the beads pictured below.  Picture from Heather's blog.

In the order they are pictured from top to bottom:

Round Cut Horn Beads
Aqua 9.5 x 10mm Table Cut Glass
Purple Glass Round 6mm
Green Ceramic 12mm Round
Aqua Opaque Table Cut Glass
Bone Amber Rectangle 12 x 20mm
Reconstituted Turquoise White Rondel

When Heather called this a challenge, she meant it.  I would never have selected these beads to go together but that is what a challenge is.  My friend Evelyn and I decided to split the beads between us to see what we could come up with.  The only thing that we came close to making the same were the earrings.  You can see her creation here.

I had a vague idea of what I wanted to make and just laid it out.  I used the rondels as spacers, the amber rectangles as the focals beads, and the purple glass beads as an accent on either side of the amber rectangles.  I then alternated the green ceramic, the cut horn beads, and the aqua opaque beads up the sides of the necklace.

Below is a picture of the complete set to include earrings.

The earrings.  Just nice simple ones.

We will using the Linkz up tool on Heather's blog so be sure to visit to see the other participants:  Humblebeads

Thanks for visiting and come back tomorrow as a I will be revealing what I made for Andrew Thornton's Good Earth Challenge.

Also be sure to come back on Saturday, July 19th for the reveal of Lisa Lodge's Gemstones and Metal blog hop.

Challenge of Music reveal

Erin Prais-Hintz of Treasures-Found.blogspot.com issued a challenge to make something, be it jewelry or some other craft, that was inspired by a piece of instrumental music.  I thought of a song right away but it had a single word at the very end of the music.  I asked Erin about it and she said to go for.  Then I had to try and find the music.  It wasn't readily available at home.  So what to do?

One of the types of music Erin wanted us to listen to was music that paints a series of pictures.  My friend and beading partner Evelyn found some music that she wanted to use as her challenge piece so I listened along with her and decided to use her piece of music for the challenge also.  If you look at her piece and then at my piece you would not believe that we listened to the same piece.

Ralph Vaughan Williams was an English composer of many types of music, symphonies, chamber music, opera, choral music and film scores.  The music that I listened to was "A Pastoral Symphony (Symphony No. 3)" which draws on his experience as an ambulance driver in World War I.  He would go up a hill to view the sunset.  There is a cadenza for trumpet in the second movement that is based on a bugler's practice where the bugler repeatedly played an interval of a flattened seventh instead of an octave.  It was first played January 26, 1922 in London conducted by Adrian Boult.

Here is a link to YouTube: A Pastoral Symphony

It has four movements, each different.  The first is Molto moderato which is contentedly calm in tone but has a darker central section.  It often features solo instruments.  This is the section that I listened to to make my piece.  The second movement is Lento moderato a slow movement opening with a horn solo followed by a cello solo leading to the trumpet cadenza.  The third movement is Moderato pesante which is introduced by a brass section followed by some fast music (the only time fast music appears in the symphony).  The fourth and final movement is Lento starting with a wordless soprano voice sung over a soft drumroll.  The orchestra then begins a elegiac rhapsody followed by an impassioned outpouring of feeling followed by violins playing the opening soprano melody with the soprano singing the music into silence.

 Here is what I created:

A Pastoral Symphony Necklace and Earrings
The set is made from peach and yellow opaque beads with pink, Lt. green, and amethyst faceted beads.  Also included at aqua glass disks and Lt green glass leaves.

My information was obtained from Wikipedia and the Ralph Vaughan Williams Society websites.

October Fest challenge

The blog Jewelry School Friends is having a blog challenge that is a little unusual in that you can make items that do not involve beads or beading.  It's being called A Jewelry, Craft, Bead, Home & Hearth Creative Challenge for Blogs, Facebook Pages, and the JSF page.

See this link for more details:
october-fest-jewelry-craft-bead-home
I believe there are a couple of more openings if anyone is interested.

I already have an idea for a necklace and possibly earrings.  The big reveal is October 28, so please come back to see what I made and to visit the other bloggers in the challenge.

Thanks for stopping by.

Bead Soup is done!!!

Here are my pieces from my Bead Soup mix that I received from Beti Horvath, the Stringing Fool.

I started with the flourite rounds and added peach-lined crackle beads with black seed beads as spacers.

Here is Beti's handmade clasp.

I added adventurine lentil beads and another shape for the peach-lined crackle beads.

The final design!

I still have another set of beads to be made up so look below.

The Jasper donut decorated with brass bead caps, a pearl, and root beer colored seed beads for the bail. You can see the pearls that I used.  I added dark grey pearls to the blue ones that Beti sent me.

Other side of the above jasper donut.  I used a head pin threaded from the other side and made tight loops on this side so the pearls do not move.  Am thinking of adding short chain lengths to have a different look.

Beti's brass hook 'n eye clasp

The complete set!

The final set of beads - Adventurine chips and flourite rounds

Many Beading Challenges

Sorry I have not posted anything this week.  It was one of those hectic weeks.

Completed two different necklace and earring sets for two different Valentine's Day challenges.  Will post those on Tuesday when they will appear on the sponsor's websites.  Really excited about the designs as they both are a little out of my comfort zone.

I was also able to get in on Michelle Mach's Suddenly Spring Challenge.  Love the bracelet and it fits!!!  My wrist is so small that most bracelets fall right off.  Will have to take a picture and post it.  The challenge for this is to make it represent spring.  I can take it apart or add to it.  Not sure what I am going to do.  Be sure watch for the blog hop on March 13.

Just saw a challenge for 7000 Bracelets of Hope.  Missed this last year and certainly want to try it this year.  Will be signing up and letting everyone know when the blog hop is.

Thanks for stopping by.

Here is a picture of my January Challenge entry at Operation Tackle That Bead Stash.  We were to create something beaded using just white and black beads.  Findings did not count as a color.  If you used/made a square of any type you earned bonus points.

Here is a link to all the entries and there were over 37 of them: http://tacklethatbeadstash.blogspot.com/2012/01/january-challenge-and-winner-is.html  I just love the first entry from Janice, the white rose set.  About half way down the page are two sets made by my friend Ev.  At times our styles are very similar and other times she is more adventurous then me.  My entry is second from the end.  (I just copied the picture that I sent them.)  Let me know what you think.

Sunset at the Beach

Sunset at theBeach

Finally got a picture downloaded.  Not sure what I did but am glad to have one to talk about.  This set was one that I did for a challenge on the Operation Tackle That Bead Stash! facebook page.  Wasn't able to get a picture done in time to send it in.

The pendant and Mother-of-Pearl beads are from Michael's, orange and white stripe beads are from a mix that I got at JoAnn's, and the orange beads and silver spacers are from Shipwreck Beads.  It has an adjustable three ring toggle clasp.  Earrings are just simple drop earrings.

What do you think?  Would you like to see more than one picture of each set that I make?  I usually do a full length shot like at the left, a close-up of the focal, a close-up of the earrings, and a picture of the clasp.

Thanks for stopping by.
