Focus on Life Week 1

Happy New Year, everyone.  I plan to be more active on my blog this year.  I have joined several groups and challenges that should get me going.

The first one is The Studio Sublime's Focus on Life postings.  Once a week Sally sends us a challenge to take a photo that meets her challenge and post it on Saturdays.  I have my photo so let's begin.

January's focus is: minimalism: there are many definitions of minimalism but the most prevalent is bare mininum.

Week One: The Minimalist Photograph - Focus on one object

I was leaving work one day last week and saw this little fellow by the bus stop.  He is very tiny compared to other birds around.  I actually thought he was a leaf and almost stepped on him.  He does not seem to be afraid of humans as I was able to walk by him and he didn't move a muscle.  Does anyone know what kind of bird he is?

Please stop by the other blogs that are participating.  Here is a link to Sally blog where we all link up to our blogs:  Focus on Life Week 1

Be sure to come back next week to see what the next focus is going tobe.

Thanks for coming by.

Carolyn

  2. Aw, ain't he a sweet little guy. Totally foreign to me - that yellow patch - but thought he looked a bit sparrow like so googled "sparrow with yellow on head" found this, seems possible for your area.http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/GOLDEN-CROWNED_SPARROW/id
What fun to have a life model as your subject, I thought straight away of something inanimate. Happy 2014!

  5. I'd say it was a yellow headed sparrow (not to be confused with the common sparrow which is a totally different species of bird and not truly a sparrow at all), but it the back feathers don't seem to have enough colour variation... wonder if it was injured birds don't usually sit there waiting to be stepped on! He's cute whatever he is!

  9. The bird is sure a little cutie. Looking through my bird book I would say it is a female Golden-Crowned Kinglet which is in the warbler family..

  11. I'm afraid I can't tell you what kind of bird he is, but he's lovely. He is practically the same colour as the pavement, urban camouflage perhaps? :)

  12. He's a gorgeous little bird, and I'm certain he's a Gold Crest. He looks great against the background - very minimalist!
